Friends: National Resource Center for Community-Based Child Abuse Prevention
Mission:
FRIENDS (Family Resource, Information, Education, and Network Development Services) strives to build the capacity of States and communities to prevent child abuse and neglect and to support and strengthen families.
Work: FRIENDS, a service of the Children’s Bureau, is a federally funded National Resource Center charged with providing training and technical assistance (T/TA) to Community-Based Child Abuse Prevention grantees. FRIENDS offers T/TA services in all areas of focus required for CBCAP programs.
Reach: FRIENDS works in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia. Our services are available to the state lead agency designated by the Governor to receive and administer CBCAP funds for the implementation of community-based and prevention-focused programs and activities designed to strengthen and support families to prevent child abuse and neglect.
Strengthening Families: FRIENDS is a national partner of the Strengthening Families Initiative. A number of CBCAP State Lead Agencies have implemented Strengthening Families based programs. To support their activities, FRIENDS has been working closely with our partners, the National Association of Children’s Trust and Prevention Funds and the Center for the Study of Social Policy, to support CBCAP organizations as they implement this initiative. This involvement has included participating in the planning of the 2007 Strengthening Families Summit and National Network, sponsoring CBCAP State Lead Agencies’ attendance at the Strengthening Families Summit, and providing training and technical assistance to CBCAP State Lead Agencies on this topic.
Technical Assistance: FRIENDS will provide training and technical assistance on Strengthening Families to those organizations designated by their Governor as the State Lead Agency to receiveor CBCAP or programs that are CBCAP set aside grantees. If you are eligible for FRIENDS services, you should contact your assigned T/TA coordinator to set up technical assistance.
