Parents As Teachers

Parents as Teachers

Mission: To provide the information, support and encouragement parents need to help their children develop optimally during the crucial early years of life.

Work: Parents as Teachers works in the areas of Parent Education and Family Support. We train early childhood educators to become parent educators to deliver the Parents as Teachers Born to Learn ® (BTL) home visitation model. We support all professionals working with parents of young children with research based professional development curricula and training that further address the changing and diverse needs of families. We advocate for policies that support parents with young children and programs that serve parents/families with young children.

Reach: There are over 3000 program sites across all 50 states, U.S.Territories and the countries of Australia, Belize, Canada, China, Germany, Mexico, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

Strengthening Families: Parents as Teachers has written the Protective Factors and Strengthening Families concepts into all our professional development trainings and incorporated them into newly released curricula. Strengthening Families and the Protective Factors are also incorporated into the new edition of the core BTL 3-Kg curriculum, scheduled to be released in late March. The core P-3 curricula will include the Protective Factors into the curricula and training at the next update. Parent Educators are currently being introduced to the factors as part of the week-long Training Institute. Parents as Teachers consistently lifts up Strengthening Families in its grant proposals, speaking events, and workshops, as well as at meetings with State Leaders.
